The Wigan Cope

The Wigan Cope is worn exclusively by Rectors of Wigan,

It is made of 18th century Portuguese tapestry, which was brought to Wigan over a century ago.

On the back is a design of a 1000 year old Christian Symbol of All Saints.

The Ophreies on the front mark the ecclesiastical history of

Wigan Parish from the Province of York, to the Diocese’s of Lichfield, Chester and Liverpool.

With the Rector’s seal and the town’s old coat of arms.

it was made by the Guild in the late sixties.
