Why join Wigan Parish Church Choir?

There are many reasons why youngsters should consider joining the choir, but we think that the following are some of the most important:

Firstly, it gives them a broad (and free!) musical education which will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.

Several recent studies have also confirmed the strong links between musical ability and appreciation and academic achievement.

Secondly, the type of music, which the choir specialises in, is still immensely popular, Compact Discs of Gregorian Chant and compilation discs such as 'Adiemus' have sold millions of copies in recent years.

Thirdly, it develops teamwork, discipline and social skills amongst youngsters. It gives them the responsibility of leading the music in church and of doing a job of work to the best of their ability from as young as 7 years of age.

What will it involve?

1 or 2 practices per week (depending on age) during the school term and one service on Sunday (9.30 a.m. Parish Communion). There is a complete break from all choir commitments at the beginning of the summer holiday.

What sort of recruits join?

Children between the ages of 7 and 12.The only essential requirements for recruits are enthusiasm and commitment; singing ability improves with practice.
